Oh Monday… Personally, you and I have a great relationship because I eschew norms and traditions and don’t work a 9-5, so I more-often-than-not have Monday off. I might not have work, but errands and adulting make my Mondays frustrating enough. That’s where good music comes in.
If you’re like me, and I know some of you hoes are, then Mondays are especially tough for you. Whether you work in nightlife, are in the service industry, or you just take too many gin and tonics to the face with a hefty side of party favors, Monday can be a real fucking struggle. This week was especially tough as I was in San Francisco for Folsom Street Fair; yeah, she arrived back home DOA. Nothing like a little musical pick-me-up…
In the music industry “demos” are a kind of currency. New artists record them to showcase their talent, writers record them to shop around to execs/producers, and other artists record them in the hopes that they’ll make an album, but often times they don’t. So what happens to them? They exist in a kind of purgatory, but sometimes we’re lucky enough to get our hands on them; oftentimes demos are fire, and unfortunately never see the light of day. One such demo is recorded by Jay Sean, probably for female talent, and boy is it a banger!
Raise your hand if you stayed out too late this weekend, sniffed sketchy substances, and got dicked down in the wee hours of Sunday night. Fashion was gaudy, hairstyles were tragic, George W. Bush was in his first year, yet there was a silver lining: music, especially music videos. Jessica Simpson may have just been a ditsy, big-titted, country girl with a heart of gold…

There have been few tragedies more devastating than the demise of Lindsay Lohan‘s ill-fated third (yes third!) studio album, Spirit in the Dark.
There are at least like, I dunno, 5 essential albums everyone should own (4566563 if you’re gay), and Kelis‘ Fleshtone is two of them. I don’t know how the math works out, it just fucking does. If you want me to show my work, no, and go hang out with all my math teachers.
The year was 2001, and I was just a wee little gayby riding around in my mom’s super gay Mazda Miata (that she won in the divorce), bumping some fierce cassettes. One of those cassettes was Ms. Janet Jackson‘s All For You, and a particular song sticks out in my mind: “Doesn’t Really Matter“.
I wouldn’t say that I’m “moody”, because that would be admitting a character flaw, but I will say that I have a different playlist for every occasion. The Come Down is an officially unofficial playlist I like to tap into when I need to be gently caressed and spoken sweetly to.
